RE: Upcoming road closure and summer construction at
Wetherill
Beginning next week, crews will be pulling high voltage cable from the North Power Plant under Central Drive to Wetherill Hall. These cables will power the temporary substations that will be placed at the northwest corner of WTHR during the High Voltage Project.
During the latter part of next week, Central Drive will be closed for one day to allow crews to install the cable in the tunnel that runs under the road. Signs will be posted and an announcement will be made when the exact date has been determined (either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.) Vehicles that park in the HPN/ENAD lot will need to access it from the north side.
The High Voltage Project's vault expansion and equipment upgrades at Wetherill are expected to last from May 12 through August 15, 2008. During that time, the area between WTHR and the North Power Plant will be fenced off for the contractor lay down area. A walkway on the south side of HPN is expected to be maintained. The temporary substations will be in a fenced off area on the northwest side of WTHR, near the bike racks and adjacent to Centennial Mall. Central Drive will be closed for much of this project.
A map of the area is available here: http://www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/pdf/wthr.pdf (The road closure is marked in red; fenced areas are marked in blue.) Photos of the area are available on the High Voltage Project website located at: http://www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/HVP/wetherill.php
